The Consulate General of Pakistan, Vancouver was opened in September 2007, to enhance trade, academic and cultural ties with three provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Nunavut Territories which constitute around 27.4% of landmass of Canada and 28% of Canada’s total population.
The opening of the Consulate is an acknowledgement of the growing importance of Western Canada, especially British Columbia’s keenness in fostering ties with Asia-Pacific region. The relations between Pakistan and Western Canada are growing in different fields. In 2017, the three provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan contributed 51.67% of Pakistan’s total trade and 70.40% of Pakistan’s total imports from Canada.
Trade with British Columbia has been increasing recently. Fairly large Pakistani origin community of around 70,000 under the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate is also a strong human bridge between the two countries.
Since the establishment of the Consulate, the Pakistani community has grown considerably in the lower mainland in British Columbia , as well as Alberta and Saskatchewan which required state-of-the-art consular facilities. The Consulate has launched a Machine Readable Passport facility in the office premises as well as online Passport renewal facility has made available by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, Islamabad.
National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has also started online renewal of National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). Details about the services being provided by the Government of Pakistan to overseas Pakistanis are available on the website. Besides, important links of the Government of Pakistan are also available which can be accessed by the individuals interested in doing business with Pakistan.
