Attestations of Power of Attorney/ Affidavits

                                      Process of attestation of Power of Attorney

Dear Applicant,

The Executant visiting the Consulate in person for attestation of Power of Attorney should bring the following documents. In this regard, the Executant must sign the Power of Attorney in front of the authorized official in the Consulate. The fee will be paid through Debit/Credit Machine installed in the Consulate.

Instructions/Requirements 

  • Original Power of Attorney Document. Each page should be signed by the Executant;
  • The witnesses’ names, CNIC/NICOP numbers and signatures can be obtained beforehand;
  • The witnesses should not be the family members of the Executant;
  • Two recent photographs;
  • Copy of the PR Card/Canadian Passport of the Executant;
  • Copy of NICOP/Pakistani Passport of the Executant;
  • Copy of CNIC/Passport of each witness;
  • Copy of CNIC/NICOP of the person who is being given Power of Attorney;
  • Contact Information Form, duly filled in (available on Consulate’s website:(www.pcgv.org).

Please also note the following instructions:

  • The consular jurisdiction of this Consulate is Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, Yukon territory and Northwest territories;
  • The Power of Attorney should be prepared by the Executant or his lawyer as per the requirement of the concerned government/legal authorities of Pakistan. Requirements of legal paper (letterhead, signature box of executant/attorney, number of witnesses (if any) varies on case-to-case basis.
  • The Consulate does not take any responsibility for the contents of the document;
  • The Consulate attests signature of the Executant only;
  • Photographs must be duly stamped with the date by the photographer in Canada;
  • Photographs must be taken within the past three months;
  • The size of the photograph to be submitted is 70mm (2-3/4 in) height by 50mm (2 in) width with a light blue or white background;
  • Each Executant must attach a colored photograph of himself/herself. Failure to provide photographs) will result in application being returned;
  • The Executant’s photograph will be attested in the Consulate. Notarization from a notary public or lawyer is not required.
  •  One of the original/notarized valid Pakistani passport or valid CNIC/NICOP is required;
  • The photocopy of CNIC/NICOP or Passport is required from the each witness;
  • The original identification of the Executant must be submitted along with a photocopy;
  • Photocopy of the Executant’s Machine Readable passport must be copied on the first page where all information is entered;
  • Photocopy of valid CNIC/NICOP must contain the front and back side of the card;
  • The validity of the document from the date of attestation by this Consulate is 120 days.

 

It may also be noted that, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has developed an automated, digital process for issuance of Power of Attorney (PoA) for Overseas Pakistanis. Using this system, Overseas Pakistanis can now apply and obtain a Power of Attorney from the convenience of their homes, without physically visiting the Consulate General.

It is a fast and secure service facilitating OPs, who want to give Power of Attorney to any person residing in Pakistan. This system is centrally managed by NADRA in Pakistan and those desirous can apply online.

 

Henceforth, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Vancouver for Western Canada would only be processing in person and digital/online Power of Attorneys.  Attestation of Power of Attorneys through courier would be entertained till 30th April, 2024 only.

Application Submission Guidelines

  1. Account Creation
    An applicant will get access to the PoA Portal to create their account by providing their email address along with other details.
  2. Applying for PoA
    Once successfully signed up and authenticated, the executor can lodge PoA by submitting required documents.
  3. Biometrics
    The applicant to upload biometrics on the provided Fingerprint form.
  4. Fee Payment
    Applicants will be asked to pay the required fee for the application and receive results of biometric verification.
  5. Video Interview
    The Consular Officer of the selected Mission (in this case Consulate General Vancouver) will schedule and conduct an online (video) interview with the applicant to determine the final decision on the case.
  6. Final Consent
    A system-generated email is sent to the applicant’s registered e-mail address to acquire the Final Consent for POA issuance

An incomplete application will be RETURNED UN-PROCESSED. An application accompanied by fee in the form of cash or personal cheque will also be returned.

Before sending your application by mail, please make sure that the application form is complete and signed and all required documents are attached. For list of required documents please refer to the relevant section below.

Please note all those documents which require to be notarized must be signed by a Notary Public or a Lawyer and not by a Commissioner for Oaths.
